The SDSRT and ASRT are committed to the implementation of consistent state and national education and certification standards for medical imaging and radiation therapy technical personnel. In addition, we work with other organizations to push federal lawmakers to make sure radiologic science facility accreditation standards include imaging-modality specific certification requirements and continuing education requirements for technical personnel who work in those facilities.
South Dakota is one of a handful of remaining states that do not have state licensure requirements in support of the Radiologic Sciences in South Dakota. Historically we have participated in a national approach that sought legislation to introduce federal minimum educational requirements in order to practice in the Radiologic Sciences. This initiative has been unsuccessful, so we've turned our focus to working on achieving support for these standards at the state level.
